Limited edition on glossy paper 8 x 10 inch Dire Straits

20 x 25 cm Photograph – Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler, John Illsley & Alan Clark, 1981)

This black and white 20 x 25 cm photograph captures a rare early-80s moment with Dire Straits' core trio: Mark Knopfler, John Illsley and Alan Clark. Taken around 1981, the image reflects a pivotal period shortly after the release of Making Movies (1980) and just before the recording of Love Over Gold (1982).

On the left stands Alan Clark, newly joined keyboardist who brought a more textured sound to Knopfler’s compositions. In the middle is John Illsley, the band's loyal bassist and founding member. And to the right, of course, Mark Knopfler, the group’s creative force, master guitarist, and renowned songwriter, then entering one of his most inspired phases.

This lineup helped shape some of the band's finest work, including iconic songs like Telegraph Road, Private Investigations, and It Never Rains. The photo beautifully conveys the understated intensity of Dire Straits before their worldwide breakthrough with Brothers in Arms.
